Delta Xi's Programs

Our Mission

We are an all-volunteer organization that focuses on various multifunctional programs to help our mostly disadvantaged youths realize their dreams through mentoring and educational awareness.

An Alternate Approach

Delta Xi's goal is to help promote education through mentorship by providing resources to deserving students. Delta Xi will support a number of programs designed to encourage self-sufficiency, improve academic achievement and promote volunteerism through community service projects.

Gentlemen Program

The Gentleman Program, sponsored by Delta Xi, is a program that provides role models from within the community who help cultivate the positive characteristics of challenged young African-American males.

Positive Role Models

The program's role models are African-American males from diverse professional backgrounds. All role models are encouraged to reflect characteristics of self-confidence, leadership and independence. In addition, they work with young African-American males to help strengthen their belief in their own abilities. Role models participate in school visitations with their students to discuss such topics as cultural understanding, mutual respect, identification of goals and empowerment. All schools involved are committed to the three "R's" of the program: Respect, Responsibility, and Restraint.

Enrichment Activities
The Gentleman program through volunteers, school facilitators and parents, provides extracurricular enrichment activities for the young men. These include cultural and historical functions, sporting events and a variety of social gatherings. Participation is based on grades, behavior, and school attendance improvement, and parental permission. Teachers, administrators and guidance counselors select students for the program at school level.

College Tours

“Education is the passport to the future, tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X

Helping at-risk youth—for whom college often is not a consideration—realize their dream of going to college and having the doors of opportunity open for them is the main reason the Delta Xi Chapter will start hosting its College Tour again. The program will focus on schools in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Each year Delta Xi offers youth in grades 10-12 from NorthEast DFW Metroplex high schools the opportunity to visit HBCUs and other select Universities during spring break as a way to inspire them to prepare for college and experience life on a college campus. What’s significant about the Delta Xi’s College Tour is that it encourages students who may not be thinking of going to college to change their minds.

Before participating in the tour students learn how to prepare for the SAT and ACT tests and develop an individual college development plan (ICDP). In addition, students research each school on the tour and develop a portfolio containing transcripts, letters of recommendation, and personal letters to present to each college/university they will visit.

Students will have:

  • The opportunity to meet new friends
  • Transportation via a Deluxe Motor Coach
  • A pre-departure orientation meeting with families
  • Hotel accommodations in quality hotels
  • Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Presentation and Meeting with college admissions representatives
  • Guided campus tours
  • Exploration of the areas surrounding campuses
  • Tours of historical and cultural attractions
  • Recreational activities
  • A chaperone ratio of approximately 1 to 4
  • Post- tour follow up event
